Cemetery Blessing on St. Thomas Sunday.....

Every year on St. Thomas Sunday, a group of parishioners and friends gather at the little chapel in East Ridgelawn Cemetery to attend a Panikhida for all our relatives and friends.  During the service, Fr. Igor recites a list of all those who have fallen asleep in the Lord.  After, we move along as a group from stone to stone to pray for those resting there and Fr. Igor blesses the stones.  This is always a good event and especially when the weather is clear, a meaningful way to spend some time with those visiting and those resting.

St. Thomas Sunday was a beautiful day. This year it was especially poignant because it was also Mother’s Day, a good day to be close to our mothers and all those we remember so well that have passed on.

If you haven’t attended a cemetery blessing on St. Thomas Sunday, you need to put this in your calendar for next year.  It falls on the first Sunday following Easter.  It is a spiritually rewarding day and time well spent for you and those you love but are gone.

“Give rest, O Lord, to the souls of Thy servants who have fallen asleep, for they have placed their trust in Thee, our Maker and Fashioner, and our God.”  Memory Eternal!
