News from St. John's ........

Father Igor’s message for October brings to mind that this time of year causes us all to start thinking of holiday activities.  Father reminds us that October includes many holidays that we should include in our plans.  The month starts with the Feast of the Protection of the Most-Holy Theotokos on October 1.   On Sunday, October 18, we will celebrate one of the Evangelists, the good doctor Luke, the companion of St. Paul.  On October 26, we commemorate St. Demetrius.  Plan to join us for Divine Liturgy on these days.  Father’s message in its entirety has been sent out with the monthly Enlightener and more information on each of these holidays is described in that correspondence.

Sunday, October 4, is the Diocesan Church Musician Appreciation Day.    We will honor our devoted and talented choir directors and singers with special prayers added during the Augmented Litany and with our special thanks to them.  Throughout the years, our choir has always been a vibrant source of spiritual inspiration and worship.  In the past, the membership of the choir was a great deal larger under the direction of  Prof. Michael P. Hilko.  Presently, the number has fallen to a precious few; but, despite the lack of many voices, the members who remain are key to the musical excellence exhibited at St. John’s in worship for the glory of God in our church.  May God grant Maryann Stagen, our gifted Choir Director, and all the singers Many Years!

Trustees’ Meeting will be on October 20.

Please help to fill Thanksgiving Baskets for those in need.  Turkeys, stuffing, gravy, and cans of vegetables, fruits, soup, and cranberry sauce are needed.  Or, you may prefer to give a monetary donation, and we will shop for you.  Please bring in your donations by Sunday, November 15, to give us enough time to put the baskets together and prepare them for distribution to our neighbors in need.  It is important that we all be a part of this ministry, and show that we are true followers of  Jesus Christ and follow His teachings.  “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” – Helen Baron
