Presanctified at St. John's.......

March 18, Wednesday evening, we were pleased to host some neighboring parishes who joined us at the Presanctified Liturgy at our church.  Fr. Igor was joined by Fr. Stephen Evanina from Assumption of the Holy Virgin Church in Clifton, Fr. Matthew Brown from Holy Apostles Church in Saddle Brook, and Fr. Stephen Kaznica from Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Passaic.

How good it is to pray together in harmony and solemn devotion at this beautiful and meaningful service.  The Presanctified Liturgy is an ancient liturgy served during Great Lent.  It is the solemn Lenten Vespers with Holy Communion added to it.  The Communion is received from the Sacramental Gifts of bread and wine offered and sanctified at the Divine Liturgy of the previous Lord’s Day, hence its name of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts. The choir sang the spiritual responses with great sentiment and beauty under the direction of our choir director, Maryann Stagen and her talented and genuinely emotional choir members.

We later gathered in the church hall for a Lenten dinner.
