Great Vespers - 5:00 PM - Live Streaming Only

Saturday, April 4, 2020 - 05:00 PM
Great Vespers for St. Mary of Egypt.   Live Streaming Only.   The fifth Sunday recalls the memory of St. Mary of Egypt, the repentant harlot. Mary tells us, first of all, that no amount of sin and wickedness can keep a person from God if he truly repents. St. Mary recognized her sinfulness and sought to bring about an essential change in her life. She ran from her sinfulness and devoted the remainder of her life to placing God’s will above her own. In addition, Saint Mary tells us that it is never too late in life - or in lent - to repent. Christ will gladly receive all who come to Him even at the eleventh hour of their lives. But their coming must be in serious and sincere repentance.

Great Lent ends on the Friday following the Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt. We now enter into the annual commemoration of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection. It begins on the Saturday of Lazarus. Because of the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead, Christ was hailed by the people as the long-expected Messiah-King of Israel. Thus, in fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament, He entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey. The crowds greeted Him with branches in their hands and called out to Him with shouts of praise: Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The Son of David! The King of Israel! Because of this glorification by the people, the priests and scribes were finally driven to destroy Him and to put Him to death. The feast of Christ’s Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, Palm Sunday, is one of the twelve major feasts of the Church.

Holy Pascha Divine Liturgy - 9:30 AM Live Streaming Only

Sunday, April 19, 2020 - 09:30 AM
This is the climax of the entire liturgical year. It is the day on which we celebrate Christ’s passing from death to life and is the foundation and the origin of our Faith. Out of love for fallen humanity, the Son of God assumed flesh and became one of us. In the Orthodox Church, the central fact of the Christian faith is that the Son of God has appeared on earth as a real man, born of the Virgin Mary in order to die and rise again to give life to the world. By His Resurrection from the dead, Jesus gives new life to all who believe in Him and does His will. When the Holy Myrrhbearers entered the tomb, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. Instead, an angel in white garments was seated where the Lord had lain. The angel said, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; He is risen, as He said.” (Matt. 28:5-6) The Icon of the resurrection never depicts Jesus emerging from the tomb. Instead, the icon shows Christ’s descent into Hades prior to His bodily resurrection. He is standing on and crushes the gates of Hades. As the New Adam, He raises to new life the righteous who had gone before Him literally pulling Adam and Eve from their tombs.

Lazarus Saturday - Great Vespers - 5:00 PM

By raising Lazarus from the dead before Thy Passion, Thou didst confirm the universal resurrection, O Christ God!  Like the children with the palms of  victory, we cry out to Thee, O Vanquisher of Death;  Hosanna in the hightest!  Blelssed is He that comes in the name of...
