We are sad to announce that on March 4, 2024, Barbara Kary of Wallington, New Jersey, fell asleep in the Lord. Deepest sympathy is extended to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John, and leaves behind a beloved son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren.

 Words fail to describe the love Barbara expressed towards her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and her church, St. John’s Orthodox Church. A life-time member of St. John’s, I cannot remember a time in the past when Barbara was not involved with our parish in some capacity. A devoted life-long member of the choir, a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Sunday school teacher, and an active member of the Passaic ”O” Club, she was deeply involved with the life of her church. Her commitment was sincere and constant and her faith intense and loyal. During the 1960’s, our choir director, Prof. Michael Hilko started a monthly newsletter entitled “The Enlightener.” Soon after he established the publication, he knew he was unable to continue with this informative newsletter. Barbara took on the responsibility and it became a favorite of our parishioners. She never missed publishing an issue on time for over many decades! Pictures of Barbara are in the Photo Gallery.

She attended all the services possible until her health prevented her presence. She will be truly missed.  “With the Saints give rest, O Christ, to the soul of Thy servant, Barbara, where sickness and sorrow are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting. Whither we mortals shall go, making our funeral dirge the hymn; Alleluia.” Memory Eternal.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday, March 12th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Kamienski Funeral Home of Wallington (106 Locust Ave, Wallington, NJ 07057). A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 12th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church (170 Lexington Ave, Passaic, NJ 07055). A burial will be held on Tuesday, March 12th 2024 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at the East Ridgelawn Cemetery (255 Main Ave, Clifton, NJ 07014).
