SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

June at St. John's.........

June at St. John's.........

Mothers’ Day was on May 9 this year and, as usual, we honored our mothers with a small gift of candy to express our love and gratitude for all they accomplish in their private lives with their own families and for all they do for St. Johns. On June 20, we will also honor our dad’s with a small gift with love and appreciation for all they do for their families and for St. Johns as well.   Raising children is an enormous responsibility and it is important for youngsters to understand that the rules and regulations set down by their mother and father are for their well-being. This responsibility must include bringing our children to church and strengthening their faith for their future. It would be sad to deprive your children from the love and peace and comfort of knowing and loving God who loves them unconditionally and can enrich their lives in ways not evident in this fallen world.  Remember, if we don’t teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to!  May God bless all mothers and fathers with good health, joy, peace for Many Years! Let us also pray for our departed mothers and fathers who have entered Eternal Life. May their Memory be Eternal!

Divine Liturgy for The ASCENSION of our Lord Jesus Christ will be on Thursday, June 10; for The Nativity of St. John the Baptist on Thursday, June 24; and on Tuesday, June 29 for Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Please attend! Please see the calendar for times for all the serv ices at St. John's.

On June 24th, St. John the Baptist, the Forerunner of Christ, is remembered on the feast day of his nativity. The Church observes his birth as a feast day, an honor only shared by the Holy Virgin Mary whose birth is celebrated on September 8. And we here at St. John the Baptist R.O. Church, will celebrate its name day. Christ Himself said that St. John is greatest “among those that are born of women…” He prepared the way for the coming of the Lord and, at the Jordan River, Baptized Christ. He is also a Martyr and Prophet, telling us all, “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” In his icon, he is portrayed with the wings of an Angel, not only because he was the unique messenger of God preparing the way for Christ, but also because of the sanctity of his life.

On June 6, Matushka Svitlana and Fr. Maryan are planning a back yard social hour, inviting all our parishioners and their families to a social coffee time. Children are invited and activities for them will be available. If weather does not permit, we will reschedule to the following week June 13.

Happy Birthday to all those celebrating their birthday in June. Michael Bzik celebrates his birthday on June 3; Kerri Czech, on June 13; Zenia Kary on June 19; Mary Ann Dolak on June 22; and George Hook on June 27. May God grant them all Many Years!

Our sister in Christ, Dorothy Fabian, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2021. A loving wife and mother, her beautiful voice enhanced our choir each week. May her Memory be Eternal!  Pictures to remember her are in the Photo Gallery.

Remember our needy neighbors. The Food Pantry is always in need of food items. Please keep those less fortunate in mind and help us to feed those in need. A basket is in the vestibule of the church for your convenience. May God bless you abundantly for your generosity.

We are challenged to learn about our faith and to love Christ. It is incumbent that you join us for the holy days listed above. Remember, God’s love and blessings do not stop during the summer months so remember to go to church wherever you are vacationing. Jesus tells us Himself that: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matt 18:20)
