News From St. John’s

We at St. John’s are looking forward to Matushka Anna’s return with Maxim and Sofia.  God grant them all a safe and pleasant trip home.  See you all soon and Happy Anniversary to Mat. Anna and Fr. Igor and God grant them Many Years!

The following is an excerpt of Father Igor’s message for September.

Above all great people, therefore, even above John the Forerunner, above the Archangels and Angels, the Lord God placed the Most Holy Virgin Mary.  And rightly did He give her this place, because the Holy spirit overshadowed her, in order for this woman to become the mother of the Pre-eternal Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ.  The Most Holy Spirit of God made the heart of Mary to an unparalleled degree more pure than the hearts of all people.  Our Lord Jesus Christ considers the purity of her heart most important of all, which is why in the Beatitudes He said:  “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”  (Matt. 5:8).  Uninterrupted communion with God, the vision of His face, is the greatest reward our Lord Jesus Christ promises to those who keep the nine commandments, which we call the Beatitudes.

The heart of the Most-Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary scattered light of exceptional purity and love not only throughout the earthly world, but the day of her glorious birth “proclaimed joy throughout the ecumene”, the world of the invisible powers.

The Nativity of the Theotokos is September 8 and Divine Liturgy will start at 9:00 a.m.  Be sure to join us for this important service.

News of the destructive hurricane and continuing rain in Texas has filled the airwaves with scenes of tremendous flooding and human devastation.   Although far from our own area, prayers for all these unfortunate people are necessary; and it is important to remember, although we cannot help physically, our prayers are helping those that need them.  For more, please see:  Prayers for Deliverance from Hurricanes.  George Rozanovich, son of parishioner Anna Rozanovich,  and his family live in the affected area.   Please pray for George and may God bless and help him and all those affected by this terrible weather and grant them peaceful and safe conditions soon.

The Passaic “O” Club will send representatives to the 91st Annual National Convention to be held in Harrisburg/Hershey, PA. this weekend.   In October, the New Jersey District will hold their District convention in South River, NJ.  Sessions, and Vespers will be followed by an Octoberfest dinner in the church hall.

Helen Baron, Food Pantry coordinator thanks everyone for all their donations during the summer months.  She also reminds us that fall will soon be upon us and that includes Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Please remember the need that many families have and start collecting supplies for the Thanksgiving baskets that will be distributed to them.  Many thanks again for all your help.
