On Sunday, November 8, we will celebrate the Synaxis of the Archangel Michael and the other Bodiless Powers. Among the angels there rules a perfect unity of mind, of soul and of love to the holy will of God. Each nation has its guardian angel as does each individual. There are nine orders of angels and they are: six-winged Seraphim, many-eyed Cherubim, godly Thrones, Dominions, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Archangels and Angels. The leader of the angelic army is the Archangel Michael. He is one of the seven leaders of the heavenly powers: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Salathiel, Jegudiel and Barachiel. Sometimes Jeremiel is added as an eighth leader. “Supreme Commanders of the Hosts of the Heavens, we, the unworthy, importune and beseech you that by your supplications you encircle us in the shelter of the wings of your immaterial glory, guarding us who now fall down and cry to you with fervor:   Deliver us from dangers of all kinds, as the great marshals of the heavenly hosts on high.”

The holy season of the Nativity of Jesus Christ are starting on Sunday November 15 when the Nativity Fast Begins. The Nativity follows 40 days later. Already on St. Andrew’s Day (November 30) and St. Nicholas Day (December 6), hymns are sung to announce the coming birthday of the Lord.  The feast of Christmas is the celebration of the world’s salvation through the Son of God who became man for our sake. During this time we should try to improve our way of living and allow more time for prayer and preparation for the coming feast. Attendance in church services and confession and communion at this fast period are encouraged.

The Entry into the Temple of the Most-Holy Virgin Mary is worshiped on Saturday November 21. A small child of three, Mary is brought to the temple by her pious parents and relatives, to be consecrated to God. With reverent prayers, her parents, Joachim and Anna left her to study the Law of God. She prayed, read the Holy Scriptures and lived there for about 11 years becoming deeply devout and lovingly obedient to God. “Today is the prelude of the good will of God, of the preaching of the salvation of mankind. The Virgin appears in the temple of God, in anticipation proclaiming Christ to all. Let us rejoice and sing to her: Rejoice, O Fulfillment of the Creator’s dispensation!” (Troparion Tone 4)

Happy Birthday to all those celebrating their birthday in November. Among those are Matthew Kary on November 14, Jonas James Czech on November 16; Florence Junda, November 18; Juliana Kary, November 19; Matushka Lana Chaykivsky, November 24 and Dan Beckmann on November 30.  A very happy birthday to everyone celebrating their birthday in November and May God grant you all Many Years!
