St. Andrew and St. Nicholas Vespers sponsored by FOCA NJ District...

This past Sunday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m., members of the New Jersey District of the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America met in our hall to discuss the affairs of our organization here in New Jersey. In attendance were V. Rev. Joseph Lickwar, Chancellor of the Diocese of New York and New Jersey, V. Rev. David Garretson, Spiritual Advisor for the New Jersey District of the FOCA, and V. Rev. Maryan Chaykivsky, Rector of St. John’s. Special guests were Allison Steffaro , President of the FOCA and Past President Marge Kovach. The meeting concluded with many enthusiastic suggestions and plans for future events. It was at this time that we were pleasantly joined by His Eminence, our beloved Archbishop Michael who arrived from a previous engagement. Forming a procession to the church, everyone attended the Vespers that was served for St. Andrew and St. Nicholas, Patron saints of FOCA and the New Jersey District. Following the service, a supper was served in the hall.

It is hard to express exactly the comfortable camaraderie that occurred during supper and that was enhanced by the attendance of His Eminence, Archbishop Michael who we always feel blessed by his presence.  It has been some time since we were all together and the wonderful fellowship that accompanied our supper is hard to put into words. For many years we danced together, we met frequently together, we attended conventions throughout the country, we ate together, we sang together, and many played sports together. None of these amazing memories is ever lost but they are even more precious when remembering and reliving all these things we did together. How do you measure the value of an organization? For me, I doubt I would ever have met these wonderful people without it. How good it is to feel a connection with these individuals and be a part of something that works together for the family and their children, and for their children’s growth in the church and social life, for those in need, for the Church they attend and for the love of Christ.

For the Orthodox Christian, all good things have God as their origin and goal. Nothing is outside of God's love and concern. The FOCA is a good thing and we ask God’s blessings on the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America.  Pictures can be seen in the Photo Gallery.

Great Vespers at Holy Assumption

Great Lent is the time of repentance, the time of our reconciliation with God. Repentance is the beginning, and also, the condition of a truly Christian life. Our Church has set apart seven weeks as a special time of repentance and calls each Orthodox Christian to a special spiritual effort....
